Petrus Stadler

We’d like to welcome Petrus Stadler to BlockBlaze this week! Petrus creates Wild West MOCs and is probably one of the hardest themes to work with.

Petrus recalls always having an interest in the Wild West and remembers watching old Westerns with his dad. LEGO was a great way to pay tribute to this theme and allows Petrus to relive his love for all things Cowboys and Indians.

After LEGO discontinued the Lone Ranger series, it was noticeably harder to get hold of anything in this genre, making this particular theme really hard to recreate with LEGO.  After meeting Johannes Bisschoff, Petrus realised that he could create his own designs and not be bound to what LEGO has on offer.

His MOCs kicked off with an old church and soon grew to include a saloon and several other buildings. Taking inspiration from the Lone Ranger “Silver Mine Shootout” set, he started creating a Western landscape, expanding on this theme and incorporating the buildings he designed. The scene includes several buildings, a train passing through the mountain, two water features and some kinetic elements, such as a mine cart moving in and out and an eagle soaring high over the waterfall.

Minifigs also form a large part of Petrus’s collection. Again, it’s challenging finding minifigs that fit this genre. Fortunately, BrickLink offers a good supply of both minifigs and cannons, another incredibly scarce item.

Petrus shares some of his wagon designs with us, as well as his other big love, trains. His latest project includes a rebuild of the Hogwarts Express train from a 6-wide stud base to an 8-wide stud train, increasing the visual appeal and displayability of the set.

Thank you for staying true to your LEGO vision of the Wild West. We can’t wait to see what you build next.
